”Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” - Colossians 3:16
We have carefully selected the songs that we sing on Sundays to help us remember and rehearse the gospel as we praise our gracious God for who he is and what he has done. Regardless of its source, we should always evaluate whether each individual song declares the truth of Scripture. Our prayer for all of us as believers is that of Paul in Philippians 1:9-11, “And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.”

But even as believers, we have a tendency to try to find our meaning and purpose in things other than our identity as God’s image bearers. We find ourselves drowning in an attempt to make a name for ourselves. We want big things to happen. We want God to use us in big ways. And in reality, we are wanting to make a name for ourselves….just like all of those who have gone before us.
