As followers of Jesus, one of the ways we worship him is through our giving. There are two main reasons for this. First, giving is way to of recognizing God's provision for us. It helps us remember that all we have comes from him, that our security is in him and not in our finances. Second, giving is a way for us to utilize the gifts God has given us to reach those who do not know him yet. Participating in this kind of giving helps us to set our hearts on God rather than the things of this world. This is what Jesus is talking about in Matthew 6:21 when he says, "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." It is important to note that we give as an act of worship rather than out of compulsion or the belief that we will receive some sort of special blessing from God.
